Wednesday 1COMEDY & GROW UP
|
Luagh out loud HAPPY HOUR
Jules Posner Presents Happy Hour 7-9 FREE
About Grow Up:
Grow Up is a sophisticated night of disco, boogie, italo, and other assorted dance musics as performed by the DJs Hotthobo, Pat Les Stache and Fenstar. After being fed up with the sleazy side of popular dance nights in San Francisco, promoter Hotthobo (formerly of WORK and Pillow Talk) combined forces with similarly minded DJs, producers, and artists and to create Grow Up, a night that highlights their favorite dance tunes and genres new and old, with the focus being specifically on those elements. Each monthly edition of Grow Up features a guest DJ or live performance. There is no cover unless noted.
THIS MONTHS GUESTS;
Team Everything:
Team Everything was formed when a young boy raised by wild dogs banded together with a group of friends to fight evil in discotheques around the world. These days Team Everything plays an eclectic mix of Boogie-Step, Kraut-Wave and Dub-Disco with the occasional slow jam thrown in for good measure. Expect to shake your butt.

Friday 17AFROBEAT NO GO DIE
|
MAISHA PRODUCTIONS & MADRONE Present:
Join San Francisco’s resident Afrobeat expert, Liberian-born DJ Jeremiah with the Afrobeat Nation and resident percussionist Jose Rivera of Fogo Na Ropa, at his monthly party at Madrone.
Bring your dancing shoes and good vibes as Dj Jeremiah will be spinning Fela, afrobeat, soukous, highlife, afro house and more accompanied by a group of seasoned, hard-hitting, musicians including percussionists, drummers and trumpet players.
As a boy growing up in Liberia, Jeremiah was a music fanatic. He loved to listen and dance to traditional and Afrobeat music blaring from local radios stations. He learned early that music is supposed to make you feel good. With his passion for world music, Jeremiah has amassed a great collection of dance tunes that has kept the world music fans joyful and grooving - reminiscent of his childhood days. "Afrobeat is more than just being a DJ," says Jeremiah Kpoh. "Afrobeat is revolution." For the 33-year-old Liberian native, known to San Francisco world music fans as DJ Jeremiah or, simply, Mr. Afrobeat, the genre represents not a violent uprising, but a movement of consciousness. (San Franicsco Chronicle)
Since arriving in the Bay Area, Liberian native DJ Jeremiah has been making a commotion, both musically and politically. Jeremiah's experiences as a refugee inform his in-your-face lyrics, which are sung over a mix of hip-hop beats, jazz-inspired tunes, and funk music. - Flavorpill ,

September 22, 2010 8pm–10pm $10/advance (at Madrone) or $5/door
The exhibition Bodies in Space(s): Negotiating Sites/Sights at Madrone Art Bar
contemplates how experiences and representations of the body/people are embedded
in socially conditioned modes of expression, and are constituted as sites/sights of
identification, personal history, and agency, are articulated in varied cultural spaces.
The exhibition and performances are situated in the recognition that peoples’ bodies
are “objective” social units that have a physical presence and are sustained through
objects, people, and cultural matrixes external to one’s own being. The project thus views
performative acts of cultural production as modes of self-realization that have the potential
to articulate, translate, and contest the way in which thoughts and images construct
identities and social realities, through fluid and complex identity-formation systems.

The members of Ettie Sreet Project have been steady figures in the Bay Area music scene for more than a decade. They come together to produce sounds that are deeply melodic with a subterranean intensity.
