Here’s the truth: The sport’s biggest detractors are undeniably correct. But can’t the same be said for many of our most noble pursuits? We don’t take walks with loved ones, read poetry, or gaze at a beautiful vista because they achieve some practical purpose. It’s because we love them.

The stories told at The Golfer’s Journal often touch on golf’s myriad benefits: building relationships, getting exercise, immersing yourself in nature. But we know the real magic is that we choose to play this game because it makes us feel something that can’t be quantified. So, to those arguing that golf has no point, we say: You are 100% right. And that’s exactly why we can’t live without it. We hope you enjoy the following wonderfully useless selections.

Tattoo hands: Kohjiro Kinno

Red head girl: Gary Bogdon
