Big Brain – Microplastics Explained
June 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

🧪 Are microplastics really everywhere—and what do they actually do to the human body?
Tiny fragments of plastic have now been found in oceans, drinking water, food, human blood, and even inside our organs. Yet despite growing public concern, many people still don’t fully understand what microplastics are, why they persist for so long, or how scientists study their effects.
In this lecture, Rodney Ridley, PhD candidate in biochemical engineering at UT Austin, explores the chemistry, biology, and environmental science behind microplastics.
From how plastics break down to the emerging research on toxicity and long-term exposure, this talk examines what scientists currently know, what remains uncertain, and the potential solutions being developed to address one of the world’s fastest-growing environmental challenges. 🌎
